Merlin Adaptive Operations

Operational signals that reduce noise during investigation

Merlin is designed to highlight meaningful changes and relationships in telemetry so teams can spend less time scanning routine events and more time validating the signals that matter.

Not every event deserves the same attention

Production systems continuously emit successful requests, health checks, routine warnings and repetitive errors. The challenge during an incident is deciding which changes are meaningful. Operational signals are a way to represent activity that is unusual, related or potentially important enough to investigate.

Correlation adds context to an anomaly

A CPU spike on its own may be expected. The same spike occurring just before request latency rises and connection-pool warnings begin is more useful context. Merlin is designed to bring those relationships together so the operator can see a timeline rather than isolated alerts.

Signals Merlin is intended to surface

  • Sudden changes in event or error frequency.
  • Related symptoms appearing across multiple systems.
  • Sequences where one failure repeatedly precedes another.
  • Operational changes that differ from the surrounding baseline.
  • Evidence that a condition is recovering or remains degraded.

The purpose is prioritisation, not automatic certainty. A signal should lead the investigation toward evidence that can be checked.
